KINSMEN CLUB OF EDMONTON
Serving the Community’s Greatest Need
For over 75 years, the Kinsmen Club of Edmonton has served some of our community’s greatest needs through ongoing seed and project funding of human service programs and capital projects.
The Kinsmen Club of Edmonton has supported efforts such as the Operation Friendship Seniors Society, Boys and Girls Club, WIN (Women In Need) House, Canadian Blood Services, Glenrose Rehabilitation Centre, and the Alberta Asthma Centre to mention a few; and we are always looking for new and exciting ways to improve the community in which we live.
To that end the Kinsmen Club of Edmonton has allocated a sum of money which is intended to help charitable organizations achieve this goal through their initiatives. All organizations requesting monies from the Kinsmen Club
of Edmonton must provide a completed application.

Initiative Profile: Leading Change with the Edmonton Huskies
Description:
In 2022, ACWS partnered with the Edmonton Huskies to provide two unique opportunities to their players. First, every player on their roster participated in 4 Facilitated sessions exploring gender-based violence and the role men and boys can play in helping create a violence-free world. Using a strengths-based approach, ACWS guided the players through conversations around the nature of gender-based violence, the value of prevention, challenging the social norms that can lead to violence, healthy masculinities, common indicators of violence, bystander tools, and leadership opportunities. In response to questions from players, ACWS also included in-depth discussions about consent – why consent matters, what constitutes consent, when consent is not possible, and how to hear and respect a no.
The second opportunity is for identified players on the team to take their knowledge and share it in the community alongside ACWS as Leading Change trainers. Based on their leadership skills both on and off the field, the Huskies coaches will identify specific players to participate in an intensive facilitator training with ACWS to prepare them to partner with ACWS staff and facilitate violence prevention workshops in schools and for community groups. Participating as a facilitator will help the players expand their skills in a variety of ways – public speaking, work experience, relating difficult information with empathy, and more.
The ACWS was seeking funding to help support their work with the Edmonton Huskies in 3 ways:
a) To support sessions for the team in 2023 (4 sessions held during spring and main camps) with the objective of training the entire 2023 roster in Leading Change.
b) To support training players to become Leading Change facilitators (3-day intensive training workshop and ongoing mentorship) with the objective of training key team players to be Leading Change facilitators and partners of ACWS
c) To be able to provide compensation and travel costs for players who become community facilitators with the objective of increasing the reach of Leading Change to more community groups and schools in the Edmonton Region.
